Muscat-
As part of its initiative to enhance the leadership capabilities of government officials across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Royal Academy of Management has announced the launch of the “Future of Work in Government in GCC Countries” programme. This pioneering initiative is set to play a transformative role in the administrative evolution envisioned by the Gulf nations, fostering collaboration to achieve shared strategic objectives. Aligned with the GCC’s long-term visions and strategies, the programme will drive advancements in sustainability and human resource development, reinforcing the region’s commitment to innovative governance and sustainable growth.
H.E. Dr. Ali bin Qassim Al Lawati, President of the Royal Academy of Management, stated that the “Future of Work in Government in GCC Countries” programme was developed in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the GCC Secretariat General, and the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford. This initiative followed the 21st meeting of Directors General of Public Administration Institutes in GCC states. He emphasised that the programme is the result of a comprehensive study of the needs of mid-level leaders in the region and is of great importance, as it seeks to unify GCC efforts in developing these leaders, who play a critical role in implementing strategic visions.
H.E Dr.Ali emphasised that the programme reflects the Gulf nations’ commitment to enhancing cooperation in achieving economic and administrative objectives, which require collective efforts and the sharing of expertise and skills among government cadres. He further explained that the Academy, through this programme, seeks to enhance the knowledge and skills of these leaders, enabling them to transform strategies and plans into tangible outcomes that enrich the public sector in the GCC. He also underscored that this initiative aligns with the Academy’s ambitious vision to become a leading centre for executive leadership and management in the region and to contribute to fostering an innovative and efficient working environment within government institutions.
“Future of Work in Government in GCC Countries” programme will feature two distinct learning tracks: the first involving remote learning, and the second comprising in-person sessions, including interactive workshops, field visits, and thought-provoking discussions with experts and government leaders. Delivered through both local and international institutions in Arabic and English, the programme spans a 15-week educational journey, incorporating 10 carefully designed modules. These modules are the result of a comprehensive needs analysis, tailored to address the specific developmental requirements of mid-level management and to identify institutional challenges that could influence the effectiveness of leadership growth.
The programme is specifically designed for mid-level management professionals within government institutions across the six GCC countries, with 10 participants selected from each nation. These mid-level leaders play a pivotal role in any organisation, serving as essential drivers of national strategies. They are responsible for overseeing the implementation of organisational plans and programmes, tracking progress toward objectives, and developing detailed work plans. Additionally, they identify and address obstacles and challenges that may hinder execution, and prepare comprehensive reports for submission to senior leadership.
The participants in the “Future of Work in Government” programme are distinguished by their extensive experience in the public sector and their roles within institutions responsible for implementing national visions. They have a proven track record of successfully leading and managing projects effectively. Moreover, they have made significant contributions to numerous national initiatives and possess strong organisational and task-planning skills, enabling them to perform efficiently.
It is noteworthy that this initiative, led by the Royal Academy of Management in partnership with the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, this initiative underscores the importance of investing in national and Gulf leadership. It aligns with the aspirations of Gulf nations to elevate the standards of government performance and strengthen their competitiveness on both regional and global stages.
