The Royal Academy of Management Launches a Programme to Enhance National Competencies in Environmental Field Research

Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, the Royal Academy of Management has introduced a strategic programme dedicated to developing and enhancing Omani national expertise in environmental field research. This groundbreaking initiative is implemented in strategic partnership with the Diwan of Royal Court and Environment Authority, alongside the collaboration of Earthwatch, a renowned international organisation.

The programme aims to cultivate a new generation of researchers and environmental experts equipped to tackle both current and future environmental challenges, establishing environmental sustainability as a cornerstone of national development.
The programme is designed to empower Omani talent by fostering the development of innovative environmental research that directly supports the creation and implementation of sustainable policies. Additionally, it aims to enhance environmental awareness and cultivate a robust scientific community capable of contributing to evidence-based decision-making. This initiative underscores the Royal Academy of Management’s unwavering dedication to nurturing Omani human capital—a cornerstone of the nation’s strategic vision for achieving sustainable development and enhancing readiness to address future environmental challenges.
Azhar Al Zadjali, Programme Supervisor emphasised the importance of the initiative, stating:
“The launch of this programme marks a transformative milestone in positioning environmental sustainability as a cornerstone of Oman’s national priorities. It reflects the Royal Academy of Management’s unwavering dedication to developing human capital, a foundational pillar for driving strategic transformation and achieving comprehensive, sustainable development. Through this initiative, we aspire to strengthen research capabilities, foster advanced leadership skills, and empower participants to design innovative, science-based solutions that address pressing environmental challenges while proactively preparing for future complexities with agility and resilience.”

The programme focuses on key areas such as natural resource management, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity conservation. It employs a holistic methodology that blends theoretical and practical training, guided by local and international experts, ensuring the delivery of globally benchmarked training content.

Structured into multiple phases, the programme commenced in December 2024 with the formation of research groups aligned with national priorities. This will be followed by the development of research plans and applied projects in January 2025. The implementation of field research projects will span until September 2026, culminating in March 2027 with a comprehensive evaluation of outcomes and the publication of a final report.

The programme holds great significance as it positions Oman as a regional and global leader in environmental research. It will also enhance the effectiveness of government institutions by equipping them to adopt and implement international best practices in environmental sustainability. This initiative underscores Oman’s dedication to realising the goals of Vision 2040, fostering a sustainable economy built on the pillars of knowledge, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
